There is a Chinese saying “the age of three determines 80”\u00a0 and the West has\u00a0another saying “The future is now” .It is clear that both Chinese and foreign parents\u00a0<\/span>have relevant parenting experience and believe that the early years are the golden\u00a0<\/span>age\u00a0<\/span>for shaping the healthy growth of their children. Many parents understand that\u00a0<\/span>they are the key influencers of their children’s growth, and that their children will\u00a0<\/span>learn by\u00a0<\/span>example, so they have to set an example and start to discipline them at a young\u00a0<\/span>age.\u00a0<\/span>I believe that parents focus on disciplining their children’s behavior, but recent\u00a0<\/span>studies in medicine, science, psychology, and early childhood development all\u00a0<\/span>point to the\u00a0<\/span>interaction and relationship between parents and children as the foundation for\u00a0<\/span>their\u00a0<\/span>children’s development.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

“<\/span>Attachment Theory research clearly shows that as early as 0-18 months of age, a\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>parent or primary caregiver forms a lifelong relationship pattern with the child that\u00a0<\/span>will be passed on for the rest of the child’s life. Once a secure attachment\u00a0<\/span>relationship is\u00a0<\/span>established, it is like a secure base that can be effective in dealing with future\u00a0<\/span>turbulent situations and in building the ability to have a successful family\u00a0<\/span>relationship.\u00a0<\/span>Conversely, once an insecure relationship pattern is established, it can have a\u00a0<\/span>negative\u00a0<\/span>impact on an infant&#39;s future growth, emotional processing, and family\u00a0<\/span>relationships.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Secure Attachment<\/b><\/p>

The key to establishing a secure attachment pattern is for parents to establish a\u00a0secure\u00a0<\/span>attachment when their child is 0-18 months old. Parents can build secure\u00a0<\/span>attachments\u00a0<\/span>based on the following suggestions<\/span><\/p>

\u25cf Be close to your child often, especially when they need it, such as when they\u00a0cry\u00a0<\/span>and see their parents comforting them so that they know you are always there\u00a0<\/span>for\u00a0<\/span>them.<\/span><\/p>

\u25cf Invest emotionally in the parent-child relationship so that your child knows\u00a0that\u00a0<\/span>you enjoy spending time with them and are interested in them, rather than\u00a0<\/span>being\u00a0<\/span>preoccupied with your own work. So parents need to play with their children\u00a0<\/span>from time to time to increase parent-child interaction and communication.<\/span><\/p>

\u25cf Parents are sensitive to their children’s emotional needs because children need\u00a0you not only to meet their physical needs but also to care about their emotions\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>help them express and respond to them, especially negative emotions. When\u00a0<\/span>your child is dancing or smiling, you will help them say, “My baby is so\u00a0<\/span>happy! ” I’m so excited!” When your child is upset or crying, you will pick\u00a0<\/span>them up and offer\u00a0<\/span>protection and comfort. As they grow older, they will have more complex\u00a0<\/span>emotions, such as worry, fear, anger, frustration, and shame, and parents need\u00a0<\/span>to\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>encourage and help their children express them, even though their negative\u00a0<\/span>emotions may have something to do with them.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Insecure Attachment<\/b><\/p>

I have handled many cases in which the children are smart and well-behaved and have\u00a0excellent academic performance, but they are very disturbed emotionally. Their parents think\u00a0<\/span>they are leading by example, loving their children and working hard, but they do not\u00a0<\/span>understand how their children can have emotional problems. If they look closely\u00a0<\/span>at the “attachment pattern” between themselves and their children to see if they are always\u00a0<\/span>close to their children, if they are emotionally involved, and if they can meet their children’s\u00a0<\/span>emotional needs, it will be easy to find the core of the problem and help parents rebuild a\u00a0<\/span>secure attachment relationship with their children so that they can rely on them and build a\u00a0<\/span>foundation for growth.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
